Hearing l Passion l Care.

We proudly offer a free of charge hearing aid trial period. If workers are exposed to sound levels greater than 85dB, a hearing loss can develop. Individuals who work in high level noise are the most susceptible to developing hearing loss and tinnitus sooner than later. Age-related hearing loss occurs naturally over time, but occupational noise exposure speeds this process up, putting men and women at risk for developing early-onset hearing loss and/or tinnitus. Industrial hearing screenings offer annual hearing checks for workers who are regularly exposed to harmful levels of noise in their work environment. Baselines can only be done on employees who are going to work in a noise zone for the first time or on employees working in a newly identified noise zone. We make sure to get the most accurate results from each test to provide our clients with a full report on each patient tested. Should a large number of employees needs to be tested we provide more equipment to get it done in a shorter period of time. Your audiologist will ask you about your reason for visiting the practise, your general medical background and communication difficulties and needs. Acoustic reflex measurements are done to measure the involuntary muscle contraction that occurs in the middle ear in response to loud sounds. Pure tone audiometry is the key hearing test to identify hearing levels of an individual. Your audiologist will make this decision depending on your unique case history, needs and symptoms. In the case that you have been diagnosed with a hearing loss that cannot be medically treated, your audiologist will recommend that you are fitted with hearing aids. After you have discussed the different technology options available and made an informed decision, your hearing aid will be ordered and fitted. We at Yolandé vd Westhuizen Audiologists firmly believe that every patient fitted with a hearing aid should come back for a follow up session, for this reason we include a number of free follow-up sessions within a certain time. Different types of noises of chime-like sounds can be used with or without amplification to bring relief from tinnitus. Paediatric hearing evaluations are in essence similar to the standard test battery for adults, with a few adaptations to incorporate smaller children. During this test a small soft probe is put into the ear canal of the infant and soft sounds are presented, the hearing organs responses are measured and recorded. An employers report on the occupational disease/ injury and a service record. The occupational medical practitioner should do a medical report if the percentage hearing loss is less than 30 %. An ENT report is required if the hearing loss is more than 30 %. The medical report should clearly state whether the hearing loss is occupational or not. Noise exposure can lead to hearing loss and tinnitus while continued exposure can worsen hearing loss and tinnitus. Instruments are available which incorporates sound therapy for tinnitus.
